And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16: 18)
Reflection
Jesus tells Peter that it will be him on which he will build his Church, meaning that Christ will leave the hands of the Church to the likes of man. Christ, although he knows our flaws, and at times, our horrible actions, trusts in us to carry out his work, to in essence, finish what he started. Have you finished what he started?
Nothing shall prevail against what Christ has made. We live in a world that attacks the Church, that attacks Christ, that attacks the very nature and principles on which we stand. But no matter what earthly damage these people do to the Church, the Church will never loose, evil will never prevail, and the answer is as simple as this: one man, 2,000 years ago died so that evil can't win, so that goodness prevails. And all of that was accomplished in his resurrection. How do you live out the resurrection?
